Under its commitment to sustainable development and community engagement, Odin Mining, a subsidiary of CMOC operating a gold project in Ecuador, has successfully completed the “Caring for Our Planet: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Together” campaign in partnership with the environmental laboratory Gruentec. The three-month initiative encouraged 668 students from six schools in the Bella María parish to collect PET bottles on their school premises.

Launched on 5 June, World Environment Day, and concluding on 29 September, International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, the campaign involved students, teachers and parents in hands-on activities.

Activities during the period included:

· Lectures and workshops on the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling;

· A PET bottle collection competition, with each school receiving a large recycling container for plastic waste;

· Fun activities and crafts using recycled materials to stimulate creativity and promote reuse;

· Community support activities that extended the campaign’s impact beyond the classroom.

Each school also coordinated with local recyclers, generating direct income for the institutions and reinforcing a shared culture of environmental responsibility.

At the closing ceremony, students and teachers were recognized for their dedication with donations of technology equipment to the participating schools. Odin Mining invited its partner Orense Sporting Club to join the event, and “El Hombre Banano” – the symbolic mascot of El Oro Province – encouraged students to maintain good consumption habits and proper waste disposal practices.

“Caring for Our Planet has once again proven that environmental education from an early age is key to driving real change in communities. Students not only learn themselves but also encourage their families to join in recycling and environmental protection,” said Nancy Pastuizaca, Principal of the Nelly Aguirre de Cárdenas School in Bella María.

The strong response to the campaign will pave the way for a second phase and further strengthen the partnership between Odin Mining and Gruentec. The two organizations have reaffirmed their commitment to transforming the resources of the gold project into opportunities for sustainable development.
