KFM joined surrounding communities to celebrate the Day of the African Child at the Divins School in Kisanfu Gare village, with a focus on the well-being and development of young people. Nearly 300 students from 16 schools across nine nearby villages, dressed in blue and white uniforms, gathered for the event.

During the celebration, outstanding student representatives from each school performed a variety of programs, including poetry recitals, songs, dances and skits. Their performances drew warm applause from government officials, members of KFM’s Local Development Committee, school heads, teachers and parents.

Nine students who received secondary school scholarships took the stage to share their learning experiences and encourage their peers to study hard and strive for excellence, with the hope of one day joining this important initiative to support local talent development. They also expressed their gratitude to their teachers for their dedication and to KFM for its support.

At the event, KFM presented five outstanding students with school supplies such as backpacks and stationery, and donated footballs to all 16 participating schools to enrich extracurricular activities.

“KFM firmly believes that education is a fundamental right of every child and a cornerstone of sustainable development. It is this belief that has led us to prioritise education projects under the Cahier des Charges,” said Jean-Michel Nda, KFM’s Community Liaison Officer for Education. He noted that all education commitments had been delivered within just one year of the signing of the Cahier des Charges.

Through the celebration, KFM reaffirmed its commitment to continuously investing in the growth and development environment for children in its areas of operation under the Cahier des Charges framework, with continued focus on key education projects including the construction of school facilities, capacity building for teachers and school administrators, youth skills training, and the promotion of experience-sharing among teachers.

Cahier des Charges: A Five-Year Community Investment Plan

KFM’s US$8 million, five-year Cahier des Charges project was launched in 2024. Based on the priority needs of local communities, KFM plans to implement 23 projects covering education, health, economic development, energy and infrastructure, while also supporting women’s empowerment and community self-development capacity. The projects are expected to benefit nearly 20,000 people.
