Nestled in the verdant mountains of western Henan, the Shangfanggou Molybdenum Mine of CMOC China is undergoing a remarkable transformation—from a “black impression” to a “green benchmark.” Since resuming operations in 2019, Fuchuan Company has upheld the philosophy of “green development”, integrating ecological restoration and green mine development throughout the entire life of mine. This initiative has created an ecological model where “mines become green hills, and mining areas become scenic zones,” establishing the “CMOC Practice” for green transformation in the mining industry.

Strategic Planning: Blueprint for Green Development

CMOC places ecological protection at the core of its development strategy, adhering to the principles of “progressive reclamation”. Guided by a tailored “Three-Step Strategy,” the Shangfanggou Mine has developed a governance framework of “Five Zones + Four Ecological Corridors”, aligned with the environmental policy of Lengshui Town. This approach fosters harmonious coexistence and mutual prosperity between the mining area and local communities.

In 2020, the mine passed the national evaluation and was officially recognized as a National Green Mine in 2021. By 2025, it aims to become a Garden-Style Mine. With a total investment of ¥186 million, we will achieve 197,000 m² of restored land, 310,000 trees planted, and 5.9 hectares of farmland reclaimed.

Five Key Projects: Revitalizing the Mining Landscape

· Vegetation Restoration Demonstration Park: Transformed from waste rock piles into a green zone combining eco-agriculture and leisure tourism, the park is now a signature attraction of the mining area.

· Highland Eco-Agriculture Zone: 89 mu of reclaimed land planted with corn, sunflowers, and other crops, showcasing the synergy of ecology and economy.

· Two-Mountain Ecological Corridor: 16,869 m² of slope greening with full sprinkler coverage, converting previously barren land into a 900-meter ecological corridor.

· “698” Theme Park: An industrial relic revitalized into a cultural park, blending ecological landscapes with mining heritage to highlight green transformation.

· Smart Mine Development: the mine is equipped with intelligent control systems, 5G remote operations, and autonomous driving technologies. Its Safety and Environmental Monitoring Center uses 3D visualization to ensure real-time protection of mine safety and the environment.

Coexistence and Prosperity: Green Mountains and Clear Waters

Fuchuan Company promotes ecological restoration in tandem with local development, building public landscapes such as theme parks and ecological corridors to enhance the town’s environment.

Dust and noise in the mining area are effectively controlled, ecosystem functions are significantly improved, and the well-being of employees and residents continues to rise. As one local resident remarked:

“The mine we once avoided has now become a popular spot for leisure and sightseeing.”
