IXM’s Green Steps Forward: Small Steps, Big Impact
As a trader, IXM has limited influence over the environmental management practices of our suppliers. However, we believe it is important to take every possible measure within our reach. Under the Environmental pillar of IXM's Social Impact Program, we identify projects aimed at restoring nature and combating climate change, with a focus on building resilient communities- in the regions where we have our offices and are active with our business operations.
IXM backs several environmental initiatives worldwide, including the following:
Accion Andina native Polylepis trees planting initiative
One such initiative that we support is Accion Andina in Nor Yauyos Cochas, Peru. IXM's support for Accion Andina facilitates the planting of more than 30,000 unique native Polylepis trees. These trees are the only species capable of surviving at high elevations in the Andes under extremely harsh conditions. The Polylepis trees absorb water from melting glaciers, thereby contributing to water security for the local community.
The restored Polylepis forests offer numerous benefits, including preserving biodiversity, enhancing soil quality, preventing erosion, cooling the environment, supporting native grazing animals, increasing resilience, sequestering carbon, providing employment opportunities, improving wellness, and fostering connections between local communities and their cultural heritage.
The Ocean Cleanup Initiative
Since 2024, IXM has been supporting this non-profit organisation, which is developing advanced technologies to rid the oceans of plastic by intercepting plastic in rivers and cleaning up what has already accumulated in the ocean.
As of February 2025, the organization has removed over 21 million kilograms (21,000 metric tons) of trash from rivers and the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
In addition to supporting various NGO-led initiatives, IXM has been running its annual Green Campaign since 2023.
This year we focus on “Reducing Consumption and Waste”, we organized various activities across different offices in March 2025. We had the chance to have “The Ocean Clean-Up Conference” with Eugenia Makari, who introduced the organization, highlighting its mission to rid the oceans of plastic. We had also other activities, such as Recycling Things in Peru, Zero Waste conferences in Geneva, Eco-Enzyme workshops in Singapore, Coffee Grounds to Soil workshop in Shanghai, Rivers at War workshop in Johannesburg, Less Consumption Less Waste lecture in Sofia, etc.
We strongly believe that every small step can make a big difference!
