Bushfires, heat waves, dust storms and even a destructive thunder storm could not stop the 28th annual Parkes Elvis Festival. The five-day celebration of The King featuring more than 200 shows not only blew away festival goers, but also managed to raise thousands of dollars for the Rural Fire Service, WIRES and the Red Cross.
Northparkes are long-time supporters of the Parkes Elvis Festival. It is a great way to showcase the creativity and passion of employees and the region. Each year, our employee pipeline, which is made up of graduates, apprentices, scholarship holders and vacation students, are given the opportunity to get involved by designing and building the Northparkes float, for the festival’s Northparkes sponsored street parade.
The parade is a major highlight of the Parkes Elvis Festival. This year, our rural firefighters led the parade with their helmets on their chest in memory of their fallen comrades and received an appreciative round of applause from the crowd as they made their way down the street.
Elvis-themed floats, vintage and classic cars and motorbikes, led by Northparkes, travel down the main street of Parkes in front of thousands of Elvis fans. Our employees and their families are invited dress up to join in on all the fun. The Frankie and Johnny theme was featured throughout the parade.
